The third annual Big Mountain Trail Run offers half marathon, 10k, and 5k options in beautiful North Cheyenne Canyon. This year showcases the same beautiful course as last year so you can compare your times, but the date has been changed from April to May17th due to some conflicts. Let's hope for some spring buds! The race begins at the Mesa Picnic area near Starsmore Discovery Center and makes it way up and down the mountain through trails such as Upper/Middle/Lower Columbine trail, Spring creek trail, and Gold Camp Road. You will be climbing and descending up, down, and through the beautiful North Cheyenne Canon in Colorado Springs. This is an awesome and rewarding trail run that showcases the beauty Colorado has to offer to trail runners.

Courses
5k:Start off with wide track to duke it out to the single track. Then, begin the incline. 1.6 miles up the Lower Columbine Trail and then a portion of the Middle Columbine Trail to your turnaround point. Turnaround and bomb down the way you came. 1.6 mile sprint to the finish! This is a tough 5k with 565 feet of elevation gain. You'll have something to brag about.

10k:Start off with wide track to duke it out to the single track. Travel up Lower Columbine and Mid-Columbine for 2 miles to the Spring Creek Trail. Take the Spring Creek Trail winding single track up for a mile to the Aid Station at the junction of Spring Creek and Gold Camp Rd. Travel west (left) on Gold Camp through the tunnel, about .4miles to the Gold Camp/Upper Columbine Cutoff. This takes you back down the Columbine Trail. Turn Left to descend down the Columbine Upper, Middle, and Lower all the way to the finish.

Half:Start off with wide track to duke it out to the single track. Travel up Lower Columbine and Mid-Columbine for 2 miles to the Spring Creek Trail (right). Take the Spring Creek Trail winding single track up for a mile to the Aid Station at the junction of Spring Creek and Gold Camp Rd. Here is the 1st Aid Station. Then, turn Left with on Gold Camp and travel through the tunnel. You will pass the 10k turn, but you keep on trucking, pass through another tunnel and run to the "4 corners" parking lot. This is your 2nd Aid Station. Continue up Gold Camp. you'll pass over a closed tunnel, have some amazing views of the Front Range and Colorado Springs, and turn around at the cones to come back to the 3rd aid station (same station as #2). Go down (right) N. Cheyenne Canon Road from here to the trailhead for the Upper Columbine Trail. Turn left (East) to get on the Upper Columbine trail. Take Upper, Middle, and Lower Columbine trails all the way back to the finish. The Half Marathon Course has a total of 2,618 feet of elevation gain, and rewards you with great views and great trails. Can't wait to see you out there! Good luck!

The 5k will not have an aid station except at the start/finish line.

The 10k has an aid station at about mile 2.5 into it. This is at the top of the climb for the 10k. This is also the only aid station for the 10k.

The Half will go to the same aid station as the 10k (2.5 miles), then get a 2nd aid station around mile 4, will pass it and return to it after mile 9.

Our aid stations are green! To reduce waste, bring your own reusable bottle for water at aid stations along the course. This reduces waste and environmental impact and falls in line with ourBMAREphilosphy. Rapid filling nozzles will be used so you don't waste precious time filling up.

Parking
Car pooling is encouraged to lower the impact on the environment. Racer Parking is first come-first serve @ the Starsmore Discovery Center parking area. No racer parking in handicapped or coned areas. No parking up N. Cheyenne Canon beyond Starsmore or S. Cheyenne Canon Road ways. There will NOT be a shuttle provided for those parking in the overflow at the Pauline Memorial Catholic School so be prepared for a warm up jog to get to check-in.
